Dr. Khan is the founder and Medical Director of Medicor Cancer Centres.
For the last 12 years his primary practice has consisted exclusively
of providing personalized care to cancer patients. This has given him
extensive experience in dealing with the unique, complex and varied issues
that cancer patients and their families face.
In 1999, Dr. Khan co-founded P.A.L.I.N., a non-profit corporation which
addressed the growing needs of cancer patients requiring symptom control
and enhanced quality of life. Working as the co-director of P.A.L.I.N. has
given him the opportunity to provide a wide range of services to enhance
patient care in the most efficient way. Dr. Khan’ care philosophy is
based on providing exceptional care by concentrating on a small number of
patients.
His services to patients have included coordinating and optimizing
treatments, expert pain and symptom management, quality-of-life enhancements,
24 hour/day availability to address urgent problems, research into emerging
cancer-controlling therapies (new drugs and non-drug treatments), using a
holistic approach to manage medical, social and family issues, and much more.
In addition,
based on his experience, creativity and ongoing input from patients and colleagues,
Dr. Khan has pioneered treatment programs that address the complete needs
of his patients. Examples of his innovation include specialized in-home Emergency
Kits for cancer patients, concise patient traveling records, and customized “standing
orders” (physician-approved instructions that allow nurses and family
members to safely deal with urgent problems without requiring a 911 call
or a trip to the ER).
By
further developing his innovations, Dr. Khan created a centre which helps patients
achieve excellence in cancer care, beginning at the time of diagnosis.
It is with excitement and enthusiasm that Dr. Khan begins
to lead the Medicor Cancer Centres team of health professionals in their
goal of bringing much-needed services to cancer patients across Toronto,
using innovative approaches and technology not found elsewhere.
