Registered dieticians are highly educated experts in food and human nutrition.
They are qualified to assess the nutritional needs of people of all ages
and to apply their knowledge in preventing and treating nutrition related
conditions. They are trained to work with individuals and groups. They
develop and manage complete nutritional plans as well as therapuetic diets
for a wide range of health conditions including cancer, diabetes, high
blood pressure etc.
The importance of high quality nutrition in the battle against cancer cannot
be overstated. Cancer patients who are able to maintain a high nutritional
status are not only more likely to fight off infections and recover from
their illness, they are also better able to tolerate therapy and its side-effects.
If you need information on cancer, food and nutrition from a trusted expert
in this field, we can arrange a visit with our dietician, Ms. Karen Stone.
Ms. Stone received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University
of Toronto in 1976. She interned at North York General Hospital from 1976
to 1977. She continues to fulfill the requirements of continuing education
as dictated by the College of Dieticians of Ontario.
For the past 29 years Ms. Stone has been providing personalized and group
nutritional counselling for cancer and other medical conditions such as
heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, digestive problems,
diabetes, hypoglycaemia, auto-immune problems, and osteoporosis. By using
complete protocols including diet, lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements,
she has helped many patients improve their health conditions.
Ms. Stone also has extensive experience with obesity and weight management,
as well as sports medicine, and has conducted educational lectures and
seminars on these topics.
