Naturopathic medicine focuses on the promotion of health and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease using natural therapies. Naturopathic doctors use a holistic approach to provide primary and adjunctive care to promote an individuals' self healing process. They take into account the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental aspects to develop an individualized care plans for people of all ages. They use procedures and substances for diagnosis and treatment that pose the least harm to the individual. Naturopathic medicine encompasses a variety of modalities like botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, oriental medicine, acupuncture, and many others.

Naturopathic treatments effectively help to support and strengthen a cancer patient's immune system. They have been shown to help alleviate pain and suffering, thus improving quality of life. Dr. Jill Shainhouse is the founder of the Insight Naturopathic Clinic. She received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. She then studied naturopathic medicine for 4 years at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. During the course of her education, Dr. Shainhouse volunteered to work with special needs children and adults to get a better understanding of how to improve their quality of life. She also worked as a part-time kinesiologist for 8 years at Toronto's Don Mills Orthopedic Group.

Dr. Shainhouse is currently a supervising physician at the teaching clinic of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She is also a teaching assistant in Functional Anatomy, Physical Medicine, and Venipuncture. She has a special interest in treating cancer and other chronic diseases.

While completing her final year at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Shainhouse completed an externship which focused on adjunctive cancer therapies. Additionally, she is certified in intravenous therapy. Dr. Shainhouse is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
